NAME: Armando & HenriquetaSTUDYING: Business with agricultural emphasis
WHERE: Dixie College, St. George, Utah
Armando was born in the very small community of Marracuene, Mozambique in southeastern Africa. His parents both worked to support their large family, as well as their extended family living with them during the long civil war. Armando went to public schools, finishing his 12th year when he was twenty-one years old. Desiring to serve an LDS mission, he worked from 6:00 AM until 5:00 PM and then attended night school until 11:45 PM. He did this for six months to earn the required money for his mission and also passed the comprehensive 12th grade examination.
He served two years in the Mozambique Mission, taking opportunities to improve his English skills with his US missionary companions.
After his mission, he worked a year as a small business owner (trucking/hauling) and teaching employment seminars (LDS Humanitarian Services program) at two local universities. He married Henriqueta and they have welcomed their first child. Recognizing the need to obtain a good education, they worked and saved enough money for Armando to travel to the US to continue learning English and study to get his college education. After nine months, his wife and son joined him in St. George, Utah, where he is enrolled at Dixie State College, studying business. He spent a month helping a local farmer and learning US farming techniques to apply when he returns to Mozambique. His educational objective is to graduate in business management and return to Mozambique to start honest, moral businesses which will provide jobs for the unemployed, and also serve as an example of the benefits a good education can provide for those who diligently work and study.
